We Will Run – Contemporary Choreography
It’s been quite awhile since the girls & I have worked on anything other than recital choreo—however, in light of Emerge Dance Company & Revolution Team’s upcoming show this Saturday (Celebrate Life) I decided to spend the two classes leading up to the show preparing our hearts for what God wants to do with us that night.
While this piece is extremely short & simple, my sole purpose was going back to the roots of why we dance—prayer & praise—which is why you will find a large section of improv both at the beginning and at the end of the piece.
As far as “the message” was concerned; I felt like I was given two clear points from God:
The Focusing Principle
Essentially—focusing on God… & God alone in order to allow Him to prepare the vessels that we are to be used for His purpose [to channel His vast & incredible power via the Holy Spirit.]
“Then, my friend, you need to exercise the power of “focusing.” Stop what you’re doing and focus in on the vast power of God. Visualize the incredible immense power of the God of creation.”
From “Focusing on God’s Power” by Harold Wells
Psalm 8:1-6 NASB
O LORD, our Lord,
How majestic is Your name in all the earth,
Who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens! From the mouth of infants and nursing babes You have established strength
Because of Your adversaries,
To make the enemy and the revengeful cease. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet.
2 Timothy 2:1 NIV
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
Repentance
As a part of the refinement & preparation process—repentance is vital. However, I feel like a lot of us don’t actually realize what the true Biblical definition of repentance is.
The great misconception is that repentance involves us feeling bad about the bad things we’ve done and trying to atone for them. However, the biblical definition of repentance is “to change one’s mind.” In essence, not to change one’s behavior and hope that in turn our thoughts will change; but instead to realize who Jesus is & what He has done for us and allow these thoughts & realizations to change the way we think… resulting with the inevitable—our behavior changes due to a “change of heart.”
1 Kings 8:58 NIV
May he turn our hearts to him, to walk in obedience to him and keep the commands, decrees and laws he gave our ancestors.
Acts 3:19 NIV
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
2 Corinthians 5:17, 20 NASB
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Παιδί του Θεού ~ Child of God
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:12, 13 NIV)

Another Friday Night Combo for your enjoyment!
~~~
Again, I don’t have an extremely wordy explanation for this combo—just a single verse paired with a simple human thought.
“This is the story of the Son of God; hanging on a cross for me.”
This single lyric in the song was what really hit home and sold me on choreographing the piece. As graphic as it may sound, a mental image of every single person I love hanging mutilated on that cross is blazed into my memory due to that single line. Like I said, that’s what really hit home—that we really should have been the ones hanging on the cross that day; and what an unjustly excruciating and humiliating ordeal He went through to allow us to be able to partake in His victory over death!
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP in victory. 55 O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Gist Pt. I
This piece happens to be a multi-faceted one; hence the part I & part II.
“Through the past 8 months I have grieved. I keep asking God how so much grief can possibly fit into His plans. My prayers remain unanswered… but I am still comforted. Comforted by an overwhelming love. This is when I find myself asking how? How can a God so perfect… love something so horribly corrupted? So utterly lost in and to sin. Jesus. Jesus. He is jealous for this horrible train wreck that I am—that you are—that we all are; and how He loves! How He Loves…” - Written August 21st, 2011.
Through the past year of 2011, my family and many others close to me have experienced multiple deaths—and subsequently overwhelming grief. Through this grieving process this song was continually cropping up throughout the course of the year—one of His quiet and gentle methods of comfort in those difficult times.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 5For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.
The Gist Pt. II
Jesus = Truth; therefore we need to seek the truth about ourselves in JESUS—NOT the world. If we do not seek our identity in Christ—The world will gladly offer you an alternate and abhorrently fictitious identity created to bring you down. Sadly, this is how many of us have to chosen to live, in accordance with the truly crap identity the world has thrown our way. It’s time for us to live in accordance with how our loving Father sees and knows us to be.
One of my hopes through this piece was that the girls would be able to both see themselves the way HE KNOWS & SEES them, and love & praise Him because of it.
